A Russula in the middle of this hollow tree. The tree is alive, but maybe not for long.
This is unusual. The fungi on the far side of the log is the false turkey tail, Stereum ostrea, while the fungi close to the camera is purple tooth, Trichaptum biforme. They were like this all up and down the 20 feet of this log.
The new growth of the purple tooth is...well..purple.
Note the light purple color at the edge of these purple tooth. If you have a cluster of purple tooth, is it then called purple teeth?
Not sure which earth star this is nestled amongst the pine needles.
